What I Learned This Week (19-oct-2021 to 25-oct-2021)

New ideas do not necessarily agree with those already established.

This week has been a bit heavy, but I really liked remembering that everything is intertwined, let me explain myself.

I am currently studying a master’s degree that has to do with nano and photocatalytic materials, therefore I have taken subjects where topics touch physics and quantum chemistry; at the same time I am studying topics related to programming, data structures or object-oriented programming are some of the things that I see every day.

So far, anyone would think that I am on two different sides that have little in common with the other, but it is through quantum that we can relate them (although, this is only one way, if we analyze other situations such as materials with which computers are built or the electricity that an informatic system needs to work, we will see that there are many more ways to intertwine these two fields).

What most stayed in my mind this week were all the resources that I consumed related to quantum computing, it is very obvious that in this field computing and quantum are united, but before continuing with this idea I think it is pertinent to clarify , What is quantum?

Well, as I understand quantum (mechanics) is a branch of physics that studies all the interactions that happen at the atomic and subatomic scale, and we would think that the things we see on a day-to-day basis happen proportionally when they we talk about an atomic or smaller scale, but the truth is other, at that scale everything seems counterintuitive, also as Einstein and Schrödinger discovered, this can get us angry.

Well, you have to know that this two scientists hated the idea that the location of an electron and the speed at which it was traveling could not be accurately measured at the same time, the above caused them a special repulsion because basically what this implied is that there is no such thing as an equation that considers all factors and yields a desired result, an equation that Einstein dreamed of reading from the already written book on mathematics.
Their fear that this would not exist was so much that they simply dedicated a good part of their lives to discrediting the work of people like Heisenberg who just wrote the equation that describes in a mathematical way why it is not possible to know the position and velocity of an electron at the same time.

All of the above made me think about how much progress has been made in computing issues and how the people behind it must be dealing with things that take precedence over their logical reasoning.

There are times when the fact that you are an eminence in a field will cause you a shock when you are presented with a new idea, one so new that it contradicts your intuition and everything you know, at that moment you may take over these new ideas that question everything you know, but it is your duty to be able to ask yourself whether what you believe is wrong, because otherwise you run the risk of becoming a square person who refuses to see the future just because you are not comfortable with this one, and that is bad because to reject the future is to deny the advance, not only yours, but your whole environment and if you have a voice with as much echo as Einstein’s, you may also slow the whole world.

From all this I also learned that mistakes are masters, which you don’t like to face because they are hard and to a certain extent intransigent, but masters at the end of the day.
Even google has a team that is responsible for making hardware based on revolutionary ideas and guess what this team produces the most, remember this team has behind of them one of the largest companies on this planet, that’s right, what most produces this team are errors , but the type of errors that help them move forward, since through trial and error they’re able to trace a safe path which more people will use in the future to be able to advance in tasks that previously seemed counterintuitive or crazy.

Just remember this when you are doing something and you make a mistake, learn from it, it is valid to get angry, but return as soon as possible to the problem and attack it in another way and please try to open your mind to possibilities that may challenge your knowledge more. This is not a very friendly way to move forward, but it is certainly the way most of the world does it, don’t stay behind.
